Curodont™ at Delmar Family Dental: Treat Early Decay Without Drilling
Did you know some cavities can be treated before they become “drill-and-fill” problems? When tooth decay is caught early—often appearing as a white spot or a small area of demineralization that hasn’t fully broken through the enamel—there may be a non-invasive option. At Delmar Family Dental, we’re excited to offer Curodont™ Repair Fluoride Plus, a fast, comfortable treatment designed to help manage early-stage caries without needles, drilling, or removing healthy tooth structure.
Traditional fillings are incredibly effective—but they’re also a form of “surgical dentistry,” meaning the decayed portion is removed and replaced with restorative material. With Curodont, the goal is to intervene earlier, when the tooth can still be supported through biomimetic (tooth-like) repair. Curodont uses a self-assembling peptide technology (often referenced as P11-4) that is designed to diffuse into the early lesion and help guide mineral rebuilding within the enamel.
In plain terms: we’re treating the earliest stage of decay—the stage where the tooth can sometimes be strengthened and stabilized—rather than waiting until the area progresses into a larger cavity that requires a filling.
Curodont is an in-office application that’s quick and gentle. According to the manufacturer, it can be applied in as little as a few minutes, and it’s designed to be non-invasive and drill-free.
There’s no “drill sound,” no numbing shot for the application itself, and no removal of enamel. For many patients—especially those who feel anxious about dental work—this can be a meaningful upgrade in comfort when the tooth is eligible for early intervention.
Curodont is typically considered for initial, non-cavitated lesions—the “watch areas” that show the earliest signs of enamel breakdown. It may be useful on multiple surfaces (for example, smooth surfaces or areas between teeth), depending on what we see during your exam.
That said, not every cavity can be treated this way. If decay has progressed to a true hole (cavitation), a traditional restoration may still be the best option to protect the tooth long-term. The earlier we catch decay, the more options we have to keep treatment conservative. Curodont supports a prevention-forward mindset: identify early changes, intervene quickly, and help you keep more of your natural tooth structure over time. Evidence reviews and clinical studies on P11-4 describe it as a noninvasive approach for initial caries lesions, aimed at enamel regeneration/remineralization.
